Nephrology
The Nephrology Workshop was an intensive two-day program that combined foundational ultrasound principles with targeted applications in nephrology and critical care.
Day One began with an introduction to ultrasound physics, image optimization, and knobology, followed by hands-on practice sessions designed to familiarize participants with the machine and its core functions. The focus then shifted to renal ultrasound, where attendees learned the anatomy, scanning techniques, and interpretation of normal and pathological findings. Practical work included scanning sessions and exercises using phantoms for kidney imaging. The afternoon continued with venous ultrasound, covering vascular anatomy, assessment, and ultrasound-guided venous access, complemented by hands-on practice with phantoms. The day concluded with a review and short assessment.
Day Two expanded the scope to include cardiac and lung ultrasound, beginning with an overview of echocardiographic anatomy, hemodynamic evaluation, and essential cardiac views. Participants practiced obtaining these cardiac images and then moved on to lung ultrasound, focusing on identifying pleural effusion, pneumothorax, and interstitial syndromes. The final sessions centered on fluid status assessment—including IVC interpretation and hemodynamic indices—before ending with a comprehensive review and final test.
By the end of the workshop, participants had developed the essential skills to apply point-of-care ultrasound in evaluating renal, cardiac, pulmonary, and vascular systems, as well as managing volume and hemodynamic status in clinical practice.
