Nephrology
The Nephrology Workshop was an intensive two-day program that combined foundational ultrasound principles with targeted applications in nephrology and critical care.
Day One began with an introduction to ultrasound physics, image optimization, and knobology, followed by hands-on practice sessions designed to familiarize participants with the machine and its core functions. The focus then shifted to renal ultrasound, where attendees learned the anatomy, scanning techniques, and interpretation of normal and pathological findings. Practical work included scanning sessions and exercises using phantoms for kidney imaging. The afternoon covered lung ultrasound, emphasizing diagnostic patterns for pleural effusion, pneumothorax and interstitial syndromes, and concluded with a practical review and knowledge assessment.
Day Two expanded the scope to include cardiac and venous ultrasound, beginning with an overview of echocardiographic anatomy, hemodynamic assessment, and essential cardiac views. Participants practiced obtaining key cardiac and venous views and performed ultrasound-guided venous access on phantoms. The later sessions focused on fluid status evaluation—including interpretation of IVC measurements and hemodynamic indices—before concluding with a final review and assessment.
By the end of the workshop, participants had developed the essential skills to apply point-of-care ultrasound in evaluating renal, cardiac, pulmonary, and vascular systems, as well as managing volume and hemodynamic status in clinical practice.
